Overview of the Resource Centre
"Lwandle" Oceanographic Resource Centre is a departmental library often referred to as the Oceanography Library. It serves as an on-the-spot working collection for academics, post graduate students, research associates and visiting scientists in the dept. The Resource Centre also extends its services to the broader university community and to organisations affiliated to the dept.
The Library holdings comprise of reference books, general books and journals on marine research, as well as a collection of reports, reprints, conference proceedings, maps, DVD's and theses.

- Books
The books are arranged alphabetically by author for each subtopic -- which includes: Antarctica, Marine Biology, Marine Ecology, Marine Geology, Mathematics, Meteorology, Climatology and Global Change
- Journals
Journals are arranged alphabetically by title.
- Theses
PhD and Masters theses are arranged alphabetically by author - electronic versions are available for download via UCT Libraries (OPAC) Open Public Access Catalogue PRIMO
Honours projects: hardcopies are kept in the resource centre. Electronic copies are available on VULA that requires authenticated log in details for access.

The map collection is housed in hanging cabinets

The Resource Center also houses a collection of Newsletters, Reports, Conference Proceedings & Reprints.
- Short Loan Collection
The short loan collection is specifically for staff and post-graduate students for teaching and research but from time to time will service the undergraduate students as well.
