Overview of the Resource Centre

"Lwandle" Oceanographic Resource Centre is a departmental library often referred to as the Oceanography Library. It serves as an on-the-spot  working collection for academics, post graduate students, research associates and visiting scientists in the dept. The Resource Centre also extends its services to the broader university community and to organisations affiliated to the dept.

The Library holdings comprise of reference books, general books and journals on marine research, as well as a collection of reports, reprints, conference proceedings, maps, DVD's and theses.

For online resources, books and journals  search the UCT Library Catalogue PRIMO

Books: The books are arranged alphabetically by author for each subtopic  -- which includes: Antarctica, Marine Biology, Marine Ecology, Marine Geology, Mathematics, Meteorology, Climatology and Global Change

Journals: Journals are arranged alphabetically by title.

Theses: PhD and Masters  theses: hardcopies are arranged alphabetically by author - electronic versions are available on OpenUCT 

Honours Projects: hardcopies are kept in the Resource Centre. Electronic copies are available on VULA 

(Some recent theses are also in CD-ROM format kept in filing drawers - alternatively  ALL Masters & PhD theses can be accessed online via OpenUCT

Maps: The map collection is housed in hanging cabinets

Newsletters, Reports, Conference Proceedings & Reprints: The Resource Centre also houses a collection of Newsletters, Reports, Conference Proceedings & Reprints.

Short Loan Collection: The short loan collection is specifically for staff and post-graduate students for teaching and research but from time to time will service the undergraduate students as well.
