A Global Health Perspective on Cardiovascular Disease
Cardiovascular disease is found in almost three quarters of those in the age group above 80, and 50% of those above the age of 75. This disease is particularly difficult to manage in elderly people who are in live in poor socio-economic conditions.
“Issues of equity and access to health care have become a pressing issue for African countries. The poor and marginalised often have the greatest health needs. International organisations play an integral in addressing transnational health issues,” said Ntusi.
Ntusi also reminded us of the importance of living a healthy life while we are younger, in order to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. “If it tastes good, spit it out,” he said as he encouraged to decrease or eliminate red meat, salty and fatty foods.
