The Forensic Pathology Service (FPS) in the Western Cape was established in 2006 when the South African Police Service Mortuaries transferred to Western Cape Government Health and the Directorate Forensic Pathology Services was established within the Department of Health.

Dr Itumeleng Molefe, a consultant pathologist in our division has a special interest in femicides and rape- homicide cases.
Lehnnie, as he was fondly called in the Division, bade farewell to us at the end of April 2016. He joined the Division in 2009, as a General Laboratory assistant.
In April and May 2016, the Division of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology ran a collection drive for toiletries and clothing for the Victoria Hospital Rape Unit.
