Poor compliance with and enforcement of the law result in loss of lives on mine sites in the Eastern Region of Cameroon.
CFMS is celebrating the graduation of two of its PhD and two of its masters students. Dr Norita Mdege, Dr Bernadine Jones, Msakha Mona and Rozanne Engel received their degrees in April 2018. Some of these students have been closely involved in the department and leave lasting footprint. We asked them to share their graduation experience and offer advice to future postgraduates.
“In exploring the breakdown of language due to trauma, a journey to ‘the far places’ of human experience, I want to examine the idea of love and desire, and how eros shapes this transformative process,” says writer Mishka Hoosen. “In looking at Call it a Difficult Night and other works, I want to examine the role of love in shaping and transforming language and understanding, and consider what that might say about our current state of transformation as a wounded country.”
George is a Regional Hospital (+- 300 beds) that functions a bit more like a tertiary centre, just on a much smaller scale. It has smaller clinical teams (8-10) consisting of 3-4 specialists, a registrar and a few medical officers and interns. It is important to note that there are no “sub-specialties” like Neurology, Cardiology, Paediatric Surgery etc. George refers to Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town if required.
Mitchells Plain Hospital is a large district hospital in Lentegeur, Mitchells Plain. It serves a community of approximately 700 000 people with some of the highest disease burden in the Western Cape. It is aligned to the University of Cape Town’s medical school, and is a training site for under-graduate and post-graduate students.
