Memorandum of understanding

Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between postgraduate student and supervisor

  • The intention behind the MOU is to clarify "up-front" the agreed roles and responsibilities of both candidate and supervisor, to ensure that the supervision experience is as mutually productive as possible.
  • The MOU must be completed by masters and doctoral candidates within six months of initial registration, or at the start of the dissertation/project in course-work masters degrees.

Continuing Professional Development

The Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Programme is affiliated to the Faculty of Engineering & the Built Environment at the University of Cape Town. A team of dedicated staff organise short courses, workshops and conferences, both large and small which provide a means for the ongoing education of professional and technical staff, outside of the formal academic courses offered at UCT for degree purposes.

Various categories of funding provide support towards the cost of study at UCT for students who will register for Honours, Masters and Doctoral degrees.

It is important to note that the University is not able to provide full-cost funding to postgraduate students. Scholarships and bursaries awarded will contribute towards the cost of study and applicants are advised to secure additional support.
